68 killed, 116 injured in fire accidents in Myanmar in Jan.-Oct.

YANGON, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- Sixty-eight people were killed and 116 were injured in fire accidents in Myanmar during the first 10 months of 2025, according to the country's fire services department on Tuesday.

From January to October this year, a total of 850 fire accidents occurred, damaging 2,644 houses, 13 factories, and 38 warehouses, said U Thein Tun Oo, director of the Myanmar Fire Services Department.

Most fire accidents during the period occurred in Yangon region with 180 cases, followed by Mandalay region with 132 cases and Shan state with 101 cases, he said.

The number of fire accidents recorded this year has decreased compared with 1,017 accidents reported in the same period last year, he said.

Most of the fire outbreaks were caused by negligence and faulty electrical wiring, he added.
