31st ASEAN Transport Ministers' Meeting held in Myanmar

YANGON, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- The 31st ASEAN Transport Ministers' Meeting was held in Myanmar's Nay Pyi Taw on Thursday, the state-owned daily The Global New Light of Myanmar reported on Friday.

A total of 187 delegates, including ministers from Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries, dialogue partners, the ASEAN Secretary-General, and senior officials, attended the meeting.

Union Minister for Transport and Communications U Mya Tun Oo said that the transport sector plays an essential role in linking economic activities, facilitating trade, supporting socioeconomic development, and enhancing people-to-people connectivity, the report said.

He noted that ASEAN's regional transport connectivity has strengthened and achieved significant progress in developing a long-term and sustainable transport sector, according to the report.
