Brunei reaffirms commitment to international health cooperation: MoH

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- Brunei is actively involved in international cooperation to ensure that the country's health system is always at the front amid global challenges, a government minister has said on Tuesday.

In 2024, Brunei has been appointed as the World Health Organization (WHO) Executive Board Member to represent the western pacific regional states, marking international recognition of Brunei's credibility and leadership in health, Haji Md Isham Jaafar, the minister of health, said at the legislative council meeting.

He said this role enables Brunei to contribute to the global health policy and establish the relationship between regional needs and universal health agenda, in line with Brunei Vision 2035.

This participation also provides the opportunity for the country to share the best practices and take advantage of the latest health strategies and technologies.

Isham Jaafar also said, as a sign of support and commitment to the Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Brunei has taken the initiative to become a leading country and coordinator in the project to obtain vaccines and antiviral drugs for monkeypox through ASEAN funds.

This initiative reflects not only Brunei's commitment to regional cooperation, but also the country's ability to lead in global health emergencies.
