YANGON, March 23 (Xinhua) -- Two people were killed and 14 others sustained injuries in a road accident on Myanmar's highway on Thursday morning, the highway police said.

The fatal accident took place at around 5:50 a.m. local time near the milepost 284/1-2 on the Yangon-Mandalay highway when a light truck hit a lorry which was stopped on the road.

"Two males died on the spot. 14 of the 18 people onboard the car sustained injuries," a highway police officer told Xinhua, adding that the injured included three males and 11 females.

The injured people were sent to the Meiktila hospital for medical treatment.

The 587-km Yangon-Mandalay expressway connects the country's commercial hub Yangon and the second-largest city of Mandalay.

Deadly road accidents are frequently reported on the Myanmar highway, often caused by human errors such as overspeeding and reckless driving.
