YANGON, March 14 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar authorities have seized 1.1 million stimulant tablets in Mandalay Region and Shan State, according to a statement from the Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control on late Monday.
Acting on a tip-off, anti-narcotics police searched two vehicles near a toll gate on Mandalay-Lashio road at around 3:45 p.m. local time on March 8 and confiscated 600,000 stimulant tablets.
In connection with the case, the police searched a car in Patheingyi township of Mandalay Region at 4:30 p.m. local time on the same day and confiscated 500,000 stimulant tablets.
The seized narcotics are worth over 1 billion kyats (over 476,190 U.S. dollars), it said.
Five suspects were charged in the case as further investigation was underway.
