Myanmar reports 24 new COVID-19 cases

YANGON, May 17 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar reported 24 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, bringing the tally in the country to 613,168, according to its Ministry of Health on Tuesday.

The ministry said health authorities tested 8,087 people for COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, and the daily positivity rate was 0.3 percent.

No new deaths from the pandemic were confirmed in the country on Tuesday, leaving the death toll unchanged at 19,434, according to the ministry.

The number of patients who recovered from COVID-19 has reached 592,123 with 24 newly recovered patients on Tuesday, the ministry said.

The Southeast Asian country detected its first COVID-19 cases in March 2020.
