Myanmar reports 3 new Omicron cases of COVID-19

YANGON, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar reported three new cases of Omicron variant of COVID-19 on Tuesday, taking the country's tally to 19, according to the Ministry of Health.

The ministry said the mutant COVID-19 strain was found in three samples of returnees from India after four laboratory samples of returnees were tested recently.

The number of COVID-19 infections in Myanmar has risen to 532,402 after 235 new cases were reported over the past 24 hours.

With two new deaths, the death toll has increased to 19,295 as of Tuesday.

A total of 510,472 patients have been discharged from hospitals and over 6.15 million samples have been tested for COVID-19 so far.

Myanmar detected its first two COVID-19 positive cases in March 2020.
