MANDALAY, Myanmar - All Burma Federation of Student Unions (ABFSU) said in a statement on Thursday that it has evidence that three of its members had been tortured by having bamboo sticks inserted into their rectums.

The anti-coup protesters are interrogated inside the Myanmar junta's notorious Mandalay Palace interrogation center.

All three students were alleged to have been tortured in the same way and denied proper medical attention for their injuries, which have caused them great pain and may be life-threatening.

"During interrogation, they had bamboo sticks thrust up their rectums when they were being asked questions. Our students suffered more than a slap across the face. They were sexually assaulted." On condition of anonymity, an ABFSU information officer told the press.

According to the ABFSU, the three detainees are Yadanabon University Students' Union member Myat Thu, 22, Soe Thura Kyaw (aka Poet Thar Shar), 27, a member of the General Strike Committee of Basic Education Workers, and Thurein Moe (aka Sai Ban Kha), 24, an executive member of Yadanabon University Students' Union.

The ABFSU said it revealed the victims' identities with their families' permission for the International Committee of the Red Cross to intervene to safeguard them from future torture.
