LOS ANGELES -- Five people, including a policeman and a suspect, were killed in a shooting incident in Wasco, a small city located in central California of the United States, local authorities said Monday.

At a press conference Monday morning, Kern County sheriff's office said they received a report of shots fired at 1:00 p.m. Sunday local time. When deputies arrived at the scene, the suspect opened fire at the law enforcement personnel and the two sides started an hourlong standoff. (US-California-Shooting)

WASHINGTON -- President Joe Biden said on Monday the U.S. military will end its combat mission in Iraq by the end of the year.

"Our role in Iraq will be to ... continue to train, to assist, to help and to deal with ISIS (Islamic State) as it arises, but we're not going to be, by the end of the year, in a combat mission," Biden said at the Oval Office with visiting Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi. BEIRUT -- Najib Mikati was named as Lebanon's new prime minister on Monday with 72 votes in parliament, MTV TV channel reported.

YANGON -- Myanmar's Union Election Commission cancelled the results of the previous multiparty general elections held on Nov. 8 last year, state media reported, quoting the commission's announcement on Monday.
