HANOI -- Vietnam reported another record high of 6,194 new COVID-19 infections on Thursday, surpassing the previous record of 5,926 cases registered on July 18, according to the country's Ministry of Health.

The new infections included 6,164 locally transmitted and 30 imported, bringing the total tally to 74,371 with 370 deaths, the ministry said. (Vietnam-COVID-19)

DHAKA -- Garment factories in Bangladesh will remain closed during a two-week strict lockdown which is set to begin Friday to curb the spread of COVID-19 led by the highly contagious Delta variant.

Authorities decided to impose the strict lockdown from July 23 to Aug. 5 after relaxing restrictions for a week on the occasion of Eid al-Adha which was celebrated here Wednesday. (Bangladesh-Lockdown)

YANGON -- A new batch of China's Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine and related materials arrived in Myanmar's Yangon on Thursday, according to a release from the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar.

Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar Chen Hai said China and Myanmar have been jointly accelerating efforts in anti-pandemic measures as there have been an increasing number of new infections in border areas. (Myanmar-China-Vaccine)

HONG KONG -- The office of the commissioner of the Chinese foreign ministry in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) has strongly disapproved and firmly opposed the so-called Investment Climate Statements issued by the U.S. state department, which smeared the national security law in Hong Kong.

JAKARTA -- Indonesia has registered more than 3 million cases of COVID-19 since the first case was confirmed in the country in March last year.

The country's Health Ministry reported on Thursday that the coronavirus cases across the archipelago rose by 49,509 within the past 24 hours to 3,033,339.

According to the ministry, the death toll added by 1,449 to 79,032. This has been the highest daily number of fatalities the country ever reported since the outbreak of the pandemic. (Indonesia-COVID-19-3 Million)
