COVID-19 cases increase to 144,715 in Myanmar

YANGON, June 9 (Xinhua) -- The number of COVID-19 cases in Myanmar has increased to 144,715 on Wednesday after 136 new cases were reported in the past 24 hours, according to a release from the Ministry of Health and Sports.

Five more deaths were reported on Wednesday, bringing the death toll to 3,233 in the country, the ministry said.

According to the ministry's figures, a total of 132,655 patients have been discharged from the hospitals and over 2.63 million samples have been tested for COVID-19 so far, including 1,746 samples tested on Wednesday.

Myanmar detected its first two positive cases of COVID-19 on March 23 last year.
