Police in India claim to have caught mass murderers
Myanmar News.Net Thursday 7th August, 2008
Police in Tamil Nadu state in India have arrested two people they claim were responsible for 16 murders in the past 40 days.
Chennai Police Commissioner R. Sekar alleges the men were involved in murders in and around the city of Chennai.
He said the suspects, V. Subramani, 25, and Nagarajan, 22, had admitted to committing at least two murders and had implicated at least eight accomplices in seven other crimes.
Though the arrested men have not admitted to all the murders, police sources said they were hopeful of solving the rest of the murders by following leads provided by them.
According to Commissioner Sekar, the two men had admitted to being liquor and marijuana addicts.
He said their modus operandi was to kick their sleeping victims in the head, robbing them and eventually killing them.
He said the accused carried petrol containers to deface their victims to prevent identification.
Most of the murders took place in the southwestern suburbs of Chennai, as well as the neighbouring districts of Cuddalore and Kumbhakonam.
